New cake decorating: piping gel.!?

I guess you could say I'm new to the World of cake decorating. I have always enjoyed baking, but I always try to push my limits a little farther each time time.This am preparing a birthday cake for my father. It's a devil's pie food with vanilla frosting. To add more decorations I decided to try piping gel to transfer an image on the cake and use a star tip # 16 to complete the picture with the icing. My question is about the piping gel. It has a bit of a rare treat, to be noticed when used in the cake? Will to make the cake taste bad? "Besides, when using this technique, I do (or most people) to maintain the clear gel or color? If so, how I color? Thanks in advance for any help.!

gel system does not have a flavor that is sweet, I think the lack of taste is strange. If you fill a large amount of area with it, you can try it and most people prefer to eat the icing instead of piping gel. If you just do the outline with gel and filled with ice, not enough to really taste. I used to use piping gel to outline designs for a long time (20 years). I have not used this method since then. When I did it with the schedule I've added the black on the gel, so I could see the outline and it looked like an outline in a coloring book would be. There is another method which I think works much better, if you want to try is called "transfer of frozen butter cream." With this method, first reverse his image (which is a mirror image). Inverted image of cover with waxed paper plastic …. then … You all filling and pop the whole thing in the freezer. After the formation of ice is frozen, you turn it upside down on the cake .. and remove the waxed paper.
