Help w/Decorating Cake ideas for 40th birthday (80′s themed party)?
My sister’s 40th birthday party is coming up and it’s an 80′s themed party. Her colors are black and pink. She has asked me to do the cake, I’m not a professional by any means, but I’ve dabbled in it a little bit. I have a few questions…
1.) What should I write on the cake? It’s an 80′s themed party and she wants a snazzy saying, like instead of putting Happy 40th Birthday.
2.) Her colors are pink and black. I need some decorating ideas (pictures would be great). I am using fondant and I know with fondant you have to use a buttercream “crumb” coat underneath, is it OK if I use chocolate buttercream, or will the chocolate show through the fondant b/c the fondant is going to be white.
All ideas are appreciated and thanks so much for your help!

Transportation:: Males are more inclined to like trucks, tractors, airplanes, fire engines, boats, and buses. This theme is useful if the cake correlates with their occupation and hobbies. For example, if he is a firefighter, decorate a cake with a firefighter putting out a fire. If they are race fans, decorate the cake with a racing strip.
Holiday Ideas: You can find most any shape of pan for holidays. Wilton has about everything you can think of for cake decorating with a holiday theme. Use a heart -shaped pan for Valentines or use a bunny-shaped pan for Easter. For patriotic holidays, bake the cake in a square and decorate the cake in red, white ,and blue stripes.
Characters: There are many possibilities using familiar characters in cake decorating. Dora the Explorer and Blues Clues are popular themes. Walt Disney characters will satisfy just about anybody. You can draw the character right on the cake or cut it to look like the character.

Simple Cake Decorating Ideas for a 10 year old boy’s birthday?
The cake is a rectangle cake and I want it to be very unusuall but not to hard to decorate. He likes ALOT of frosting on his cake. So any ideas of how to decorate it? Pretty and simple? I was thinking of an ocean cake or mountain cake. But mybe yiou have a better idea. If anybody has any pictures please post them. Thanks!
Spiderman. Frost the cake with a dark red or chocolate frosting a draw a web on the cake using white frosting tubes. Buy some spiderman figuerines and place them on the cake.
Does the have an MP3 player or an Ipod? Decorate the cake to look like it. Just tint the frosting the color of the player, use frosting for the screen. Print Happy Birthday on the screen with frosting. use black licorice strings to attach the ear buds (gum drops).
Decorate it like a candy land board game. Fill it full of candy. Use unwrapped starburst for the “steps”; use gumdrops; mini candy canes, skittles, mini Cupcakes to decorate the cake. I think that I saw the recipe for this cake on the Taste of Home website.
