What to charge for a wedding cake?
I'm trying to get out and do some Cake Decorating on the side, but I have no idea what I pay. I usually only charge for the cost of ingredients and a little more, which is usually much cheaper than anyone else …. but this person wants to know how much cake small up to be real and fake the rest …. now I was thinking $ 20 for the top and then $ 10 or $ 15 for the other 2 layers if you had three, but it seems very cheap …. were also asking about sheet cakes, so the main cake should not be real. If the other layers are real, how much should I charge? HELP! I do not want to carry much because honestly most overload cake bakers, IMO.
It will cost you much as to make the fake cake as to make a real one. It may not be able to buy styrofoam rounds locally, and shipping is usually very high in them. Will take the same amount of time to decorate like a real cake. You're probably underload. You are considering the cost of ingredients, but not gas it takes to get to the store to buy electricity needed for mixing and baking, the wear of their equipment, soap and paper towels to clean … and above all that is not thinking of his time and expertise, which is the most valuable part of what you do. A person can go to Walmart and get a cheap cake for less than you can even buy the ingredients for … but then it will be cheap cake is not something that tastes and looks like something I can do. Personally, I would quote the same price per serving sheet cake to the crowd. That would save the hassle of ice on the cake dummy (which is what's called Styrofoam) and cakes baking sheet. A tiered cake will look great on your wallet and is much more fun than a lot of sheet cakes. As far as the bakers overload, most employers are aware of their spending, not just the ingredients, and charge enough that they can make a profit. Improving the skills as they are practicing their art, and a Cake Decorator is much more highly qualified special one of a grocery store. Personally, I usually bake sales, because in my state, it is illegal to sell cakes in a kitchen without a license and is impossible to achieve licensed home cooking … but occasionally I sell someone a cake, and I've tried my cake and not only stopped asking for one … and I make sure I do better than just to break even in the ingredients. Sometimes I spend 10 hours in a very big cake. If the ingredients cost me $ 90 and charge me $ 100, then I am making a dollar an hour and would be better off getting a McJob to do that.
