Cake Decorating Tips needed!!!?

Hello, I am having a party on Saturday and I need some tips on cake decorating. I’m gonna make a cake that is shaped like a book so the rectangular shape is simple, but I want to put some writing on it and I have heard about edible powders but, I only have a few days and if I order online it wont get here in time, I live in a small town so going to the store wont help unless its Michael’s or something. Is there any way I can make something edible to paint with on a cake instead of using powders? Like can i use melted sugar and food coloring or something? Any tips will help me with any of the cake making process . great, thanks!!!

You can use just the food coloring to paint with. Use an artist paint brush. If the food coloring you have is thick you will need to thin it with a little water. If your coloring is really thin you can thicken it a little with some powdered sugar or buttercream icing. You don’t want it too thick though. It should be like painting with water colors.

For your book, if you want the edges to look like pages, take a fork and make lines going all around the cake.
