Can you use Cake Decorating tips on piping bags made from parchment paper?

I don’t want to buy the expensive piping bags because the ones that I make at home out of parchment paper work great, but I want to start using some decorative tips but I don’t know if it’s worth to buy them if I’m no going to be able to use them with my homemade piping bags.

Depends.

You may be able to use them if you tape the parchment really well (so it will stay in that cone shape without frosting leaking out the sides), or perhaps if you make several layers in your cone (tall, skinny cone). Btw, the icing tips get dropped down inside the icing bags usually, unless they’re used with a cheapie plasic coupler (which is a great idea)–after cutting the tip of the back a bit, half of the coupler is dropped down into the bag till tight, an icing tip is pressed onto the bag & coupler, then the other half of the coupler screws onto the first half over the base of the tip to hold it on well. http://suchprettythings.typepad.com/.a/6a00e553a4097c88340120a7d31ab6970b-pi

You can try to use without coupler, or just with a plastic bag and see what happens.

I usually just buy the disposable plastic cone shaped bags in a package and use my icing tips in those (with the coupler, which allows you to change tips on the same color bag and hold the bag closed at the back end with a twist tie (after twisting icing down). They’re not expensive and I suppose could even be washed and used again.
