How to store butter cream icing flowers?

I’m going to put homemade butter cream icing flowers on a cake I’m making on Monday. My Cake Decorating teacher said to make them before Monday so I can put them on my cake during class. If I make the flowers on Saturday or Sunday, how should I store them? If I put them in the fridge will they get hard and break when I pick them up? and will they still be ok to eat on Monday?

When ever I would pre-make buttercream frosting flowers, I would put them in the freezer. They are much easier to handle frozen putting them on the cake. I would use scissors and with the blades of the scissors, I would lower the flowers on to the decorated cake balancing the flower on the open blades of the scissors.
